Of the many forms of Government available to a society, the Constitutional Republic is one that captures the most Liberty for its people. Of course one could say Anarchy is but then again, who wants to live in a lawless society.
A Republic, as defined in Websters 1828 Dictionary is “A commonwealth; a state in which the exercise of the sovereign power is lodged in representatives elected by the people. In modern usage, it differs from a democracy or democratic state, in which the people exercise the powers of sovereignty in person. Yet the democracies of Greece are often called republics.” A Republic is governed by laws with a Constitution, which is the supreme law1 of the land. Unfortunately, the word Democracy is used far too much within our society to describe our government model, but this is wrong. Democracies are described as “mob rule” and are dangerous as the minorities within a society can be (and will be) downtrodded on at every whim of the mobs. Our countries Founding Fathers knew this simply by studying history.
- Supremacy Clause – used by those that believe the Constitution provides the Federal Government with Supreme Powers over everything. This is not the case and its usage was referring to the document, the Constitution, itself.
